How to practice effectively on the driving range. Practice is important
and necessary. The driving range is a practice area, NOT a place to
"drive balls." When Ben Hogan started a practice session his concern was
with ball flight. He did not particularly care about direction or how
solid it was hit.
Mr. Hogan cared about ball flight because it is the ONLY way we control
distance and thus the only way we control the game. Tiger Woods has made
a lot of progress in controlling his distance on short irons because he
is in better control of the trajectory of the ball flight. He was
hitting a lot of shots well over the green because of loss of ball

flight control. When you practice stretch until you can comfortably hit your driver; start with your 7 iron and hit at least 20 balls to get loose; work your
way through your clubs up to your driver; always have ball flight and
your target in mind; remember this is a practice session not a "ball
beating exercise"; work on your routine as if you were playing a round;
go slow and take your time.
THE PERFECT SWING
This week we're talking about acceleration through impact. The reason
that shots go short and right is that the club face comes into the ball
